Bentley Restaurant and Bar, Surry Hills

My aunt from overseas is visiting and would like to bring her to somewhere nice to eat. I remember I read an article saying there are restaurants created GFC buster lunch menu and there is one which is also available on Saturday. Bentley is the one! I have confirmed with them whether they still have the special on a Saturday when I did the booking.
Bentley Restaurant and Bar
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon not many tables are there. It will be our quiet lunch and we have many to catch up!
Sourdough with Olive Oil
One good thing about the fixed menu is that you don't have to think what to eat and you can try everything. ;)
Octopus with Almond and Garlic
The octopus is tender. It is cooked to perfection. I like how they used almond to add another element to this dish.
Pumpkin Custard with Pumpkin Seed and Goat Curd
The pumpkin custard is silky smooth. It will be a lot easier for me if I have combined the seeds and custard to eat together! :p
Poached Kingfish with Fennel Puree, White Funghi and Lemon
It is interesting to see they have used white funghi in this dish. I normally have it in my soup which I love.
Pork Belly with Wattle, Garlic Milk and Rhubarb
Again they have used another type of funghi in this dish. The pork belly is in bite size and you can hear the crackling sound in your mouth. Another interesting found is the garlic milk. It is like a flat sheet of coating.
Caramelised Pineapple with Barley Cream and Beer Sorbet
The beer sorbet has a mild beer taste to it which blended the sweetness in the pineapple. Should I have a beer afterwards?

It is a very enjoyable lunch and my aunt like my choice of this restaurant.

Fix St James, Sydney

Last minute Friday dinner plan... going through my "to eat list"... Fix St James came across... this place only open Tuesday to Friday for dinner... so it was a bit hard to catch. When I called up for reservation just before 5pm, they told me they cannot do 7pm but can do something later. That's great... I thought I wont be able to make it at all!!!

This place is a small, tiny place where you walked past the bar before going into the restaurant. They also have a few outside seating where you can just go for drinks. I like their simple menu which I don't have a problem choosing what shall I eat! :p One of the wall is a blackboard which shows off what they offer for the day. Although I didn't drink for the night but found that there is something interesting about their red wine... they use a laboratory flask to serve?? This is one thing which I will need to find out next time! :)

 Fennel, Meredith and Grape Salad

We start off with fennel, Meredith and grape salad. It was a plain and simple salad with a strong blue goat cheese to favour.
 Wagyu Flank Steak with Chips

When I saw these thick cut chips... I quickly get one and eat it... may be I haven't had one for awhile. :) I enjoy them more when they are still hot and crispy. May be they thought their wagyu flank is so tender that I don't need a steak knife? I cant even cut it into bite size! :O Once I have got my cutlery sorted out, the steak was juicy and tender. I just cant stop eat...

Trout Cooked in a Bag with Potato Salad

The trout cooked without the fishy taste and it's a good complimentary with the potato salad. While I was thinking whether I will try their desserts. I can feel that I will need my coffee fix... may be it's been a long week for me??

 Chocolate Fondant with Strawberries

How can a meal completed without a dessert... so we share a chocolate pudding with strawberries. It stated on the blackboard which needs to wait for 15 minutes. When it comes, I totally think it is worth the wait!! There is a crispy outer layer with a soft centre and the strawberries is a good complement.

May be this is a small restaurant the noise level can become a issue when others had a bit of a drink... but it wont deter me to come back again for their food!!

Assiette, Surry Hills

Today is a special day for Chef S who has been here in Sydney for a year. We are going to Assiette to celebrate. Assiette opens for lunch only on a Friday. We have planned this awhile ago and so anticipate this day to come!

We met at the Central Station and walking our way to the restaurant. The restaurant is situated at the corner and there is nothing fancy outside this restaurant. We were seated at the corner of this tiny restaurant. The open kitchen seems to be unbelievably small.

While we are waiting for another guest to come, we read the menu for their special 3 courses lunch. At first sight, it does not seems to be attractive. However, its a la cart menu seems more interesting. For the price of this 3 courses menu, we all give it a try! :)

For each course, there is two choices. We picked our own selection. We ended up trying everything off the menu for the date.

Jerusalem Artichoke with Braised Lamb & Seasoned Chantilly

First the Jerusalem artichoke with braised lamb and seasoned Chantilly to arrive. It is a soup dish. It did not give me the surprise I was hoping for.

Thai-Style Fish Cake with Herb Salad & Chilli Dressing

Follow the Thai-Style fish cake with herb salad and chilli dressing. We were talking about whether to be adventurous to try something different? I guess we should follow our gut feeding! :O

Braised Chicken Thigh with Pomme Puree, Mushrooms, Pickling Onions and Bacon

Another adventurous dish to come, braised chicken thigh with pomme puree, mushrooms, pickling onions and bacon. This is to my surprise the chicken is juicy and tender. The puree is so creamy. It is a very nice dish!

Salt Cod Risotto with Pea Mousse and Spring Onion

The salt cod risotto with pea mousse and spring onion. The cod still has a sweetness taste to it. The risotto cooked to it perfection!

Quince and Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice-Cream

Finally the most important dish to come... desserts!!!! I have ordered quince and apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream. The crumble is so nutty and feel like I am having my breakfast cereals. :p

Cheesecake with Passionfruit Ice-Cream

The cheesecake with passionfruit ice-cream is unbelievably taste so great! The cheesecake just melted in your mouth. There is the right balance of the sourness from the passionfruit. This is the most memorable dish I have eaten! :)

We were talking about whether you will come back to a restaurant is whether the dessert at the end of the day will end on a high note. This one is definitely ended on a high note!
